ABOUT TEMPLETON
I needed a new washing machine
That’s the answer to why I started doing Needlepoint, but I’ll come back to that.
I was living in London and my washing machine had broken down, so I needed to save some money and I decided I had to give up going out and drinking every night. The first night was a very frustrating experience. I sat there in front of the television not really doing anything except munching on snacks, grazing like some urban heifer, and I hadn’t achieved anything positive during my time of self confinement. The next day I went to my university library and just walked down the aisles aimlessly and then I decided to close my eyes and blindly select a random book for inspiration. The book picked up was a book about historical embroidery.
Inspiration had hit! I could spend my time learning to do embroidery.
So I then went to the nearest store to select a kit to do. I seen kits on display while walking around these places while looking for all the bits and bobs I needed for my Dress Making and Tailoring for my uni courses, but I’d never tried one. I made my choice and then began to work it all out…. alone. These were the days before the internet so I had to do so much investigation into how to use scroll frames, types of yarn and ply, how to blend, how to begin and finish the threads, types of stitches and so much more, but I did it. I made loads of mistakes and learnt so much from them, and I still have the finished piece framed and hanging on the wall, mistakes and all, and yes, I did save up enough to buy a new washing machine.
Ever since then I’ve been hooked, and I really enjoy making every single piece, and they all are dotted around my home.
I had always planned to make all my soft furnishings for the château. I design the pieces, chose the colours, make the samples, many of which go wrong but I spend time either reverse stitching or making the piece anew, but that’s where I’m different than other companies, I don’t farm my designs out to others to work, I am the one who does it all so that I know that I achieve my vision and know just how much is needed, be it yarn or information, to complete each project, satisfactorily.
So now I offer a selection of designs that I have used in my château to you, so that you too can enjoy making a few hand crafted pieces of your own for your château.
I believe that everyone has the ability to be creative, as long as they find the courage to begin. From there, the only thing that holds you back is a lack of imagination, so start dreaming.
